Aims and Objectives

Aims of the society

The objects of the Society, set out in its Memorandum of Association are, in part, as follows: "to promote classical music and musicians, to stage concerts, recitals, operas and any other musical event". As is usual in such documents, there are a further 29 clauses enumerating ancillary activities which can be carried out to further the main objective.

This formal enunciation of what the Society sets out to do is self explanatory, but some additional comments are in order too.

  • We meet our objective by arranging a full season of concerts starting in September of each year with usually 10 or more events. All artists and orchestras are professional musicians.
  • Where possible, local musicians of a sufficient standard are given the opportunity to perform alongside visiting professional orchestras. Contact Maestro Chichon or our Events Co-ordinator if you are interested.
  • Another way in which we have worked with local cultural organizations has been our successful co-operation with the Gibraltar Academy of Dance (GAD). Where the programme permits, the GAD is invited to stage a performance, giving the Rock’s young would-be ballet dancers the valuable opportunity to perform in public with a full professional symphony orchestra.
  • We are always open to suggestions from other cultural organizations to explore ways in which we can collaborate.
