Clarinet Recital Romain Guyot Returns by Popular Demand

Since December of 2006, The Gibraltar Philharmonic Society has been inundated by requests for clarinetist Romain Guyot to make a return appearance in Gibraltar. The Society, in association with The Bonita Trust are now glad, and indeed proud to be able to inform that Mr Guyot will return to perform alongside pianist Yuki Nakajima on Monday 8th October 2007 at The Convent Ballroom commencing at 8:30pm.

Even before winning the position of solo clarinet position with the Orchestre National de l'Opera de Paris at the age of 22, Romain Guyot had already established a considerable international reputation.

At the age of 16, Mr Guyot performed as the solo clarinettist with the European Youth Orchestra, conducted by Claudio Abbado.

In 1996, he was awarded first prize at the prestigious Young Concert Artist International competition in New York, one of the highest honors for young talent, allowing him to perform in solo appearances all over the United States and Japan.

"Romain Guyot's astonishing technical artistry and powers of expression left his audience spellbound." (The Washington Post, March 1997.)

"A superbly gifted French clarinetist, Romain Guyot, spun out the Mozart Clarinet Concerto in one of the most meltingly beautiful performances I have heard. I cannot imagine a finer performance." (New York Post, March 1998.)

While maintaining his position with the Paris Opera, Romain continues to perform in solo and chamber music appearances and grace such famous venues as New York's Alice Tully Hall, Washington's Kennedy Center, Tokyo's Suntory Hall and others in Osaka, Dublin, Belfast, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Budapest, and Prague and Moscow. In addition to his performances with artists like Myung-hung Chung, Philippe Cassard, Emmanuel Strosser, Castagneri, Lindsay, Vanbrugh, Ysaÿe Quartets, he recorded his first CD (Brahms sonata Op.120) for Harmonia Mundi. He is a member of the Paris-Bastille Wind Ensemble and has won prizes at international competitions in Munich and Tokyo with the Debussy Wind Quintet.

While having now resigned from the Orchestre National de l'Opera de Paris, Romain Guyot will be pursuing numerous projects, taking him to Ireland, Finland, Spain, Portugal and France. He will also be performing Mozart’s clarinet concerto with the English Chamber Orchestra, and the Sinfonia Varsovia.

Tickets for the concert priced at 15 pounds each are available from Sacarello’s Coffee Co. in Irish Town and Solomon Levy Estate Agents in Convent Place. Credit/debit card purchase is also available by phoning the Society on 72134. A limited number of tickets are also available to Senior Citizens at a reduced price via The John Mackintosh Hall at 308 Main Street.
