Anna Kravtchenko

A night with Chopin, Schumann and Schubert

The Gibraltar Philharmonic Society is proud to present a piano recital by one of the most sought-after pianists in the world and a former winner of the prestigious Busoni International Piano competition – Anna Kravtchenko. The recital will be held on Wednesday 14 October at The Convent Ballroom commencing at 8:30pm.
The repertoire will include works by Chopin, Schumann and Schubert.

Ms Kravtchenko is an Italian pianist of Ukrainian, German and Georgian origin. She began to study the piano at the age of five. From 1991 to 2000 she studied with Maestro Leonid Margarius at the Kharkov Conservatory (Ukraine) and then at the Accademia Pianistica Internazionale of Imola, Italy, where she was admitted “Ad Honorem”.

In recent years, Anna has triumphed all over the world. In 2000, she toured Japan and performed with BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in Manchester; in 2001, she played Chopin‘s Second concerto with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra; in 2003, Tchaikovsky’s First piano concerto with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Beethoven’s Third Piano concerto with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Yan Pascal Tortelier; in 2004 Shostakovich First concerto with the Bavarian Radio Chamber Orchestra  and with the English Chamber Orchestra conducted by Ralph Gothoni, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and with Noord Nederland Orchestra in a  tour in Holland that concluded at the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam with Tchaikovsky‘s First Concerto ( Romantic Concert series). In 2006 an “All Chopin” recital was issued on a DECCA CD. On the same year Anna Kravtchenko won the International Web concert hall Competition.

Being only 15 years old, in 1991, Anna won first prize at the International “Concertino Praga” competition. A year later she was awarded first prize at the International “Feruccio Busoni” piano competition (the first prize hadn’t been awarded in the five previous years!). This victory assured a 60-concert tour that included performances at some of Europe’s most important halls and events: the Festival of Brescia and Bergamo,  Sala Verdi in Milan, Teatro la Scala, Herkulessaal in Munich, Ruhr Klavier Festival, Salle Gaveau in Paris, Tonhalle, Big hall in Zurich, Musikverein Golden  Hall in Vienna etc.

In 1996, Anna Kravtchenko had an extraordinary public and critical success in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw’s Meesterpianisten serie, and was invited to return in 1999, 2002 and 2006.
