Il Barbiere di Siviglia
The Gibraltar Philharmonic Society and Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch Private Bank are bringing to Gibraltar an all star cast from Vienna for the Society’s concert performance of Gioachino Rossini’s opera Il Barbiere di Siviglia (the Barber of Seville). This popular opera, in its entirety, will be presented at St Michael's Cave commencing at 8:30pm on Monday the 5th of November.
The concert will feature some of the leading stars in the opera world - in the leading roles:
Elina Garanca, who will perform the role of "Rosina" (Mrs Garanca is an exclusive Deutsche Gramophon recording artist and has sung this role in all of the leading opera theatres in the world including the Vienna State Opera and the Metropolitan Opera New York),
Adrian Erod, who performs the role of "Figaro" (Mr Erod is the leading Figaro at the Vienna State Opera and a public favourite throughout the world),
KS Alfred Sramek, in the role of "Bartolo" (he is considered the most influential and famous Bartolo at the Vienna State Opera in the last twenty years).
These international stars will be supported by Krisjanis Norvelis (Vienna State Opera), Monica Theiss-Erod (Vienna State Opera) and Janis Misins (Latvian National Opera). The European Sinfonietta will be conducted by world-acclaimed conductor Karel Mark Chichon who himself will be conducting a new production of Barber of Seville in May 2008 at the famed Vienna Volksoper.
A spokesman for the society commented “This is arguably the most important cultural event Gibraltar will ever have staged since it involves the most famous names in opera at present. Moreover, these artists are not only popular all over the world but are best known for their portrayals of the very roles they will perform for us in Barber of Seville. Thus, what Gibraltar will witness is a performance of the Barber of Seville that cannot be outmatched any where in the world, including Vienna, London and New York. Our Society is immensely proud of being able to secure these artists, which we would like to acknowledge is only possible because of Maestro Chichon's contacts in the music world. It is of no surprise therefore that we have had ticket bookings from numerous fans of these artists from Zurich and Vienna who are traveling to Gibraltar just for this event.”
Tickets priced at fifty pounds each are now available from The House of Sacarello in Irish Town and Solomon Levy Estate Agents in Convent Place. Credit/debit card purchase is also available by phoning the Society on 72134. A limited number of tickets are also available to Senior Citizens at a reduced price via The John Mackintosh Hall at 308 Main Street.
The price includes a return shuttle service departing from Ince’s Hall from 7:30 pm.
