The Gibraltar Philharmonic Society’s 1999/2000 programme of concerts and recitals continues next month with a Christmas Concert. The organ recital, provisionally programmed for this month, has been rescheduled for late January.

The Christmas Concert will be held on Wednesday the 15th of December at the Cathedral of St Mary the Crowned. It will feature the Gibraltar Festival Chorus and the premiere of a “Collage of Carols” written and arranged by Chorus’s Director, Martin Fuggle. The soloist at this concert will be Gibraltar’s own Andrea Martin. Tickets, priced at £10, will go on sale shortly.

On the 4th of January, the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society will be holding a traditional New Year Concert. The “Viennese” programme will feature the music of Johann & Josef Strauss. One of Poland’s top orchestras, the Arthur Rubenstein Philharmonic Orchestra, will be coming to the Rock for this concert and will be conducted by Maestro Karel Chichon. In view of the great demand for tickets for last year’s New Year Concert, the Society is aiming to find a larger venue, possibly the Queen’s Cinema. Tickets will be priced at £12 in the main auditorium and £20 in the Dress Circle where the dress code will be “black tie” and champagne will be served at the interval.

This month’s organ recital has been rescheduled for the 27th of January. Maestro Karel Chichon promises a recital with a difference which will feature popular classics. He will be joined by a number of friends on the bagpipes, trumpet and percussion. The “Karel Chichon and Friends” recital will be held at the Cathedral of St Mary the Crowned and tickets will be priced at £8.
