The Gibraltar Philharmonic Society is holding a second concert with the European Sinfonietta from London conducted by Maestro Karel Mark Chichon. This follows the very successful concert last week which featured the Mozart Great Mass in C minor.
The concert will be a Baroque Festival to be held next Tuesday, 18th April, at 8.30 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.
The Baroque Festival programme includes Mozart’s Divertimento in D major and Divertimento in F major, Pachelbel’s Canon, Boccherini’s Minuet from Quintet in E, Summer and Winter from the Four Seasons by Vivaldi and Albinoni’s Adagio during which Maestro Chichon will be playing the organ.
The excerpts from Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” will feature Helena Wood as solo violinist. Miss Wood, who is only 20 years old, took up a scholarship in 1997 to the Royal College of Music where she studies with Itzhak Rashkovsky. IN March of that year she was invited to Romania to perform Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnol with the Arad Philharmonic Orchestra.
Helena has also given performances of concertos such as Bruch, Mendelssohn and Bach. She has also performed the Vivaldi Four Seasons and Mozart Concerto No 5 in the Queen Elizabeth Hall with the London Soloists Chamber Orchestra. Most recently, has performed on the Keshet Eilon Mastercourse held in Israel which culminated in a concert in Tel Aviv.
The European Sinfonietta’s extensive repertoire embraces music from numerous different periods, from the Baroque era to the 20th Century, including the avant-garde. The European Sinfonietta has toured the UK, Guernsey, Spain, Gibraltar, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany and Korea. During 1993 the orchestra undertook its first tour of Spain with such resounding success that Spain has become a permanent fixture in the orchestra's touring schedule.
Tickets for the Baroque Festival concert on Tuesday the 18th of April are on sale, priced at £10, at Solomon Levy Estate Agents in Convent Place and Sacarello’s Coffee Shop in Irish Town.
