National Week Concert at St Michael’s Cave
The Gibraltar Philharmonic Society presents the ever popular annual National Week Concert arranged on behalf of the Government of Gibraltar at St Michael's Cave commencing at 9:00pm on Tuesday the 8th September 2009.
The concert will feature Siberian-born violinist Ms Natalia Lomeiko performing Shostakovich Violin Concerto No 2 whilst accompanied by the The European Symphony Orchestra under the baton of local conductor Karel Mark Chichon. The latter will then perform Tchaikovsky Symphony No 5
A society spokesman said; “We are very pleased to be able to welcome back to Gibraltar the violin virtuoso Natalia Lomeiko as well as the ever popular Karel Chichon and The European Symphony Orchestra for what marks the beginning of our 2009-10 Season and of course, Gibraltar’s National Day celebrations.”
Tickets priced at 20 pounds each are now available from The House of Sacarello in Irish Town and The Silver Shop at 275 Main Street. Credit/debit card purchase is also available by phoning the Society on 20072134. A limited number of tickets are also available to Senior Citizens at the reduced price of 10 pounds via The John Mackintosh Hall at 308 Main Street.
Changes in the programme
The Government announces changes, due to technical reasons, to the programme of classical music for the concert to be held on the 8th September 2009 at St Michael’s Cave.
As an alternative of Tchaikovsky: Symphony No 5, the orchestra will perform Rossini: William Tell Overture and Stravinsky: Firebird Suite (1919 version).
Maestro Karel Mark Chichon assures all music lovers that the change in programme will not in any way detract from the Government’s intention to provide first class entertainment.
The Minster for Culture apologies for any disappointment caused to lovers of Tchaikovsky’s musical compositions.
The price includes a return shuttle service departing from Elliot’s Way Bus Stop (opposite The Queen’s Hotel) from 8.00 pm.
