Chichon Conquers His New Orchestra, Public And Critics Alike
Karel Mark Chichon's inaugural concerts as Chief Conductor of the Deutsche Radio Philharmonic have met with unanimous praise from the public and critics alike. The concerts, that took place last week in Saarbrucken, where broadcast live on the SWR Radio and Television networks which is considered one of the leading German networks with nationwide coverage.
The concert consisted of an all-Tchaikovsky programme, including the Violin Concerto (with Sergej Krylov as soloist) and the 5th Symphony. Public interest in the Maestro's first concert with his new prestigious orchestra was overwhelming, with a full house of 1,400 persons attending the concert, including the Prime Minister of the Saarland Region, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer and the Culture Minister Stephan Toscani.
The performance itself was particularly praised by critics including Oliver Schwambach, the Chief Music Critic of the Saarbrucker Zeitung and Dr Frank Pommer, Chief Music Correspondent of Die Rheinpfaltz. Both critics described Chichon as "a man able to create magical sounds. His enormous musicality and intelligence produced an incredibly fresh account of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No 5, which came as a result of his deep study of the music score.....the star Conductor gave the symphony a completely new dimension.... No wonder why the musicians of the orchestra quickly snapped him as Chief Conductor before another orchestra could - he motivates his musicians and you can see they love playing for him. But it was not only the orchestra, the public were also at Chichon's feet at the end of the concert, paying homage to a better start to the season than anybody could have hoped for.....Imperative - all of Chichon's concerts are a must for all music lovers and not only for this season".
Maestro Chichon is contracted as Chief Conductor with the DRP until 2014, during which time he will be performing a great variety of repertoire and undertaking major tours of South Korea, China and many of the great concert venues in Europe such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Salle Pleyel Paris. The prestigious SWR record label, Hannsler Classics, have planned to record several CD's with the orchestra and its new Chief Conductor over the coming years.
