Inits Dalderis

Schumann, Chopin and Liszt at the Convent Ballroom

The Gibraltar Philharmonic Society and the Bonita Trust have teamed up to bring it’s Gibraltarian audience, clarinetist Ints Dālderis and pianist Anton Lyakhovskiy on Thursday 25th June at The Convent Ballroom commencing at 9:00pm.

The repertoire will include works by Robert Schumann, FrédéricChopin and Franz Liszt amongst others. This will be the last concert of the Society’s season and is the one in which, traditionally, Maestro Karel Mark Chichon outlines his plans for the next season. This concert will also mark the retirement of our Chairman, Ian M Angus.

The soloists for the evening Mr Ints Dālderis studied clarinet with profesor Ģ. Pāže at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. At the age of 19, after he became a laureate at the Wind-Instrument Competition named after A. Jurjāns, he began working at the Latvian National Opera orchestra. Parallel to his studies and work in the orchestra, he has performed as a soloist with all of the Latvian symphony orchestras and has also been an active member of various chamber ensembles. He has successfully participated in several international competitions and won First Prize at the Third A. Jurjāns Wind-Instrument Competition.

After graduating, Mr Dālderis played solo clarinet at the Latvian National Opera orchestra, the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and the Nordic Symphony Orchestra in Tallinn. Both as a soloist and a member of the orchestra he has performed at the Berlin Philharmonic and Konzerthaus Berlin, Royal Albert Hall in London, Festspielhaus in Salzburg, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Herkulessaal in Munich, Tonhalle in Zurich and Moscow’s Bolshoi Theater. He has played in various venues in the Baltic States, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Macao, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Taiwan.

As a member of various chamber ensembles, Mr Dālderis has participated in festivals in Germany and Sweden.

As a soloist Mr Dālderis has performed with the Nordwestdeutschlands Philharmonic Orchestra under Andris Nelsons, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, Latvian National Opera Orchestra, Nordic Symphony Orchestra, Gdansk Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, Latvian Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, as well as with the orchestras Rīgas Kamermūziķi, Sinfonietta Riga, State chapel St.Petersburg.

He has collaborated with the conductors M. Jansons, A.Nelsons, K.M. Chichon, Anu Tali, N.Šnē, I.Resnis, A.Veismanis, A.Viļumanis, N.Vaicis as well as soloists Elīna Garanča (mezzo soprano, Latvia), Andrei Dogadin (viola) and Lev Klichkov (violin, Russia), Martin Kuuskman (bassoon, USA), Dita Krenberga (flute, Latvia).
After his success at the Berlin Konzerthaus, where he performed Pēteris Plakidis’s One More Weber Opera, and for his performance of J. Adams’s Gnarly Buttons Mr Dālderis received the Latvian Grand Prix in Music 2002 .

Mr Dālderis has participated in various recordings both for a variety of CDs as well as for Latvian and German radios.

In December 2006 he became director of The Latvian National Symphony Orchestra after winning an international competition for the post. Alongside his duties as an administrator, Mr Dālderis has continued to give concerts as well as teach clarinet at the Latvian Academy of Music. He is a member of the Council of the Latvian Culture Capital Foundation and chairman of its board of experts in music and dance, chairman of the board of the Association of Latvian Performers and Producers.

On 12 March 2009 Mr Dālderis become Latvia’s Minister for Culture.
