One of the best cello players in the world Tamás Varga performs in Gibraltar

The Gibraltar Philharmonic Society together with it’s great supporters Bonita Trust are happy to announce Cello recital which to be held this coming 24th November at The Convent Ballroom commencing at 8:30pm.
This concert will be performed by one of the greatest cello players in the world - Principal Cello of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Tamás Varga who will be accompanied by pianoforte virtuoso Béla Simon.
The recital will feature works by Claude Debussy, Felix Mendelssohn, Niccolo Paganini, Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky and others.
Tamás Varga was born in Budapest in 1969 and began studying the cello at age seven. Apart from being Principal Cellist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (VPO) as well as the Vienna State Opera, Mr. Varga is also an enthusiastic chamber musician. As a member of the Vienna Philharmonia Trio and the Wiener Kammerensemble, he regularly appears in the Wiener Konzerthaus and Salzburg Festival, among other European venues. He has collaborated with such artists as Yuri Bashmet, Hildegard Behrens, Philippe Entremont, Zoltán Kocsis, Karl Leister, Marjana Lipovsek, Oleg Maisenberg, Wolfgang Schulz, Tamás Vásáry, the Bartók-Quartett, the Küchl-Quartett, Ensemble Wien, the Wiener Virtuosen and Ensemble Wiener Collage.

Pianoforte virtuoso Béla Simon began studying the piano in 1971 and from the age of eight, studied at the Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest, with György Nádor.
Similar to Mr. Varga, Mr. Simon is an enthusiastic chamber musician also and was a founder member of the extended chamber music ensemble Forrás in Hungary, frequently performed in the main halls of Budapest and regularly broadcasted for Hungarian Radio.
