Karel Mark Chichon

Chichon Appointed Artistic Director Of The Gottweig International Music Festival In Austria

Karel Mark Chichon has been appointed Artistic Director of the Gottweig International Music Festival in Lower Austria.

The International Festival has a large following in Austria since the events are held in the famous Gottweig Monastery, in Lower Austria. Austrian National Radio (ORF) broadcasts most of the events of the Festival, with an average of half a million listeners.

The Festival has attracted some of the greatest names in the classical music scene, such as Edita Gruberova, Elina Garanca, Ramon Vargas and Carlos Alvarez.

Karel’s appointment was signed last week and will run until July 2011. He will oversee the artistic content of the Festival’s events which take place yearly in July and will be responsible to select the artists to be invited to the festival as well as create the repertoire to be performed at the concert. The financial conditions of Karel’s appointment were not released.

A spokesman for the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society stressed “this appointment reflects Maestro Chichon’s growing weight and influence in the classical music world. Yet we are indeed fortunate that our Maestro continues to support and oversee all the concerts that the Society does in Gibraltar, despite his demanding international career. This can only be a plus for Gibraltar and its music lovers”.
