Paul Armin Edelmann to Perform in Gibraltar

The Gibraltar Philharmonic Society’s traditional “Christmas in Gibraltar” concert will be held on on the 10th December at the Sacred Heart Parish Church commencing at 8:30pm.

The concert will also feature Soprano Stefanna Kybalova of the Arena di Verona; Tenor Valter Borin of the Arena di Verona; Baritone Paul Armin Edelmann of the Vienna State Opera; and the European Sinfonietta all under the baton of Karel Mark Chichon.

Christmas songs and works by Mozart, Bizet, Mendelssohn, Pauls, Ramirez and Adam will be performed.

Baritone Paul Armin Edelmann was born in Vienna and later became a member of the Vienna Boy’s Choir. In 1986, he began studying singing with his father, the renowned bass - baritone Kammersänger Otto Edelmann, at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna from where he graduated in 1992.

From 1992 to 1997 Mr. Edelmann was engaged in a fix position at the Stadttheater Koblenz in Germany. In 1997 he returned to his native Vienna and since then he has been engaged at the following theatres: Komische Oper Berlin, Teatro Real Madrid, Oper Köln, Oper Frankfurt, San Diego Opera, Theatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, the Wiener Volksoper and the Wiener Staatsoper.

He has also been heard in concert with the following festivals: the Lincoln Center Festival in New York, Seefestpiele Mörbisch, the Mozartwoche in Salzburg and the Wiener Festwochen in Vienna. In concert he has sung with the Philharmonie im Gasteig in München, the Konzerthaus in Dortmund, the Tschaikowsky Conservatory in Moscow under the direction of Vladimir Fedoseyev, Palau de la Musica in Valencia, the Teatro Cujas in Las Palmas, the Brucknerhaus in Linz, the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Musikverein in Vienna.

His passion for song recitals has given him performances throughout Austria, Germany, Canada, China, Denmark, Spain, France, Tokyo, Washington and New York.

Highlights this season are performances of a new production of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the Volksoper in Vienna, a debut in the Musikverein in a concert version of Salieri’s Prima la Musica poi le Parole and Mozart’s der Schauspieldirektor under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt in Vienna, Die Zauberflöte in San Diego, a debut of a new production of Die Fledermaus at the New National Theatre in Tokyo, a debut with the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv and a recital in the Brahmssaal in the Musikverein in Vienna.

Mr. Edelmann has often been seen on television throughout Europe, Asia and Australia. One of his most renowned broadcasts was in 1998 where he performed live for the late Pope John Paul the Second in the Vatican singing Haydn’s Die Schöpfung. He has also been heard on radio from his duet album sung with brother and baritone Peter Edelmann ‘Two Voices One Name’, on Arte Nova Label, and ‘Wienerlieder’ (on Preiser Records) and on his most recent solo album ‘Romanze Italiane’ on Oehms Classics.

Tickets priced at 12 pounds each are now available from The House of Sacarello in Irish Town and Solomon Levy Estate Agents in Convent Place. A limited number of tickets are also available to Senior Citizens at a reduced price via The John Mackintosh Hall at 308 Main Street.

The price includes a limited return shuttle service departing from Ince’s Hall as from 7:30 pm.
