The programme of music will include works by Mozart, Bizet, Mendelssohn, Pauls, Ramirez, Adam and traditional Christmas Songs.
A Society spokesman said; “it is always a delight to have artists returning to Gibraltar and when we saw the opportunity of inviting Mr Borin for his third concert in Gibraltar we seized the opportunity, as did he – Mr Borin is very much looking forward to the concert as he loves performing here”.
Tenor Valter Borin enjoys a privileged position in the world of opera. He was born in Monza (Milan, Italy) and studied opera singing under the guidance of Vittorio Terranova. He then went on to receive specialist training from two great operatic masters - baritone Aldo Protti and the tenor Alfredo Kraus.
Mr Borin’s first professional operatic engagement came in 1993; performing the role of Ibrahim in Cerchio’s Alcassino e Nicoletta at the Teatro Regio of Turin. Still very young, he made his debut as Duca di Mantova in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Holland Park Theatre of London in the summer of 1995.
From 1997, Mr Borin went on to perform most of the important tenor roles within the operatic repertoire throughout Europe and Asia. In Italy alone, he performed at the opera houses of Bologna, Ferrara, Lucca, Lecce, Pisa, Livorno, Mantova, Modena, Reggio Emilia, Piacenza, and Ravenna.
In 1999, alongside the great soprano Mirella Freni, he performed the role of the Count of Neipperg in Giordano’s Madame Sans-Gene on the occasion of the reopening of the Modena Opera House, which was recorded by the CD label Dynamic.
In June 2000 he performed the role of Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Bohéme at the Teatro Massimo of Palermo to great public and critical success and in November 2000 and January 2001 he performed the role of Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor in the Teatro Verdi in Pisa, and then in the opera houses of Livorno, Como, Lucca, Ravenna and Pavia.
In 2001 he performed the title role in Massenet’s Werther at the Opera House of Lecce. He later returned to Lecce to make his debut as Corrado in Verdi’s Corsaro, which was recorded by RAI RADIO 3 and TV RAI SAT. Alongside soprano Katia Ricciarelli, he sang the role of Roberto in Puccini’s Le Villi at the opera houses of Lecce and Brindisi, which was recorded “live” on CD.
Mr Borin made his debut in Asia in 2001, performing the role of Duca di Mantua in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Seoul National Opera House. He returned to this theatre in 2002, performing the roles of Alfredo in Verdi’s La Traviata and Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor.
His many concert performances include the memorable 1999 Opera Gala in Graz, Austria, performing alongside tenor José Cura, and the “Three Gala Tenors” in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, alongside Giuseppe Giacomini and Jaime Aragall.
In 2002 he performed a wide range of operatic roles throughout the world, including Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra (the role of Gabriele Adorno) and Carmen (the role of Don José) in Tel Aviv, Tosca (the role of Cavaradossi) in Lecce, La Bohème (the role of Rodolfo) in Salerno, Adriana Lecouvreur (the role of Maurizio) for the reopening of the Teatro Cilea of Reggio Calabria, La Traviata (the role of Alfredo) in Vienna (Wiener Volksoper), Luisa Miller (the role of Rodolfo) in Busseto and Verona and the title role in Donizetti’s Roberto Devereux at the Teatro Donizetti of Bergamo.
