The Gibraltar Philharmonic Society’s 1999/2000 programme of concerts and recitals continues this month with “The World of Russia”.
The concert will be held in St Michael’s Cave on Tuesday the 19th and will feature popular classics by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Borodin and Mussorgsky.
“The World of Russia” will see the return to Gibraltar of the highly acclaimed young, Italian pianist Maurizio Baglini who will perform Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No2. Maurizio Baglini held a sell-out solo recital at the Convent earlier this year and the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society is delighted that he has accepted an invitation to play in St Michael’s Cave this month.
The orchestra for “The World of Russia” will be the Transylvania State Philharmonic Orchestra, which has also visited Gibraltar previously, conducted by Emil Simon. The programme will include; Tchaikovsky’s Waltz from the Sleeping Beauty Suite, Nocturne from String Quartet No2 and the Polovstian Dances from Prince Igor by Borodin, and Mussorgsky’s Prelude to Act 1 from Khovantschina.
Tickets for “The World of Russia” concert are priced at £12 and include the price of the bus shuttle service to St Michael’s Cave. Tickets will be on sale as from Wednesday the 6th of October, at Solomon Levy Estate Agents in Cathedral Square and Sacarello’s Coffee Shop in Irish Town. The concert will start at 8.30 in the evening and doors will open at 7.30.
