Chichon establishes himself as one of the most sought-after young conductors in the world
Local conductor Karel Mark Chichon will make his debut at the Teatro Real in Madrid conducting I Puritani with tenor Juan Diego Florez leading an international cast. The performances, to be held in April and May 2010 are expected to be sold-out events due to the calibre of the performers involved.
In announcing their 2009-10 season, the Teatro Real cites Karel as “one of the most promising conductors in the world of opera with a fast-rising career”.
The Teatro Real is recognized as the most important opera house in Spain and one the leading theatres in Europe. Karel will not only be the first-ever Gibraltarian artist to have ever performed in the venerable theatre but also one of the few British artists to do so.
Madrid will not be Karel’s only appearances in Spain for the 2009-10 season. He is also scheduled to conduct a new production of Donizetti's Lucia di Lamermoor with a stellar cast of singers in Valencia’s prestigious Palau de les Arts in February 2010. This theatre is one of the largest in Europe and has been making headlines recently for boasting the best soloists and conductors in the world, including Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta and Riccardo Chailly who are arguably considered the three finest conductors in the world.
