In a statement made via the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society Karel stressed “ this is really a huge step forward for my career, perhaps the final step I was aiming for. Universal is so influential, not only in Classical music, but in Jazz and Pop – all the major Pop, Jazz and Classical artists belong to this group - and I am honoured to have been asked to be part of this unique musical family. The record label Deutsche Gramophon is of course also part of the Universal Music Group and recording plans are underway for me with this label. I begin to realize that everything in life, including my career, is about timing and about having the strength to persevere until the end, particularly when it would be easy to have given in years ago. Joining Universal will mean the responsibility is greater, but that’s life at the top of your profession, which I relish and look forward to. When I look back at my beginnings in Gibraltar, when I was the only serious music student in Bayside School and had never heard a symphony orchestra before I was 17 - I really never thought I would get this far. But I believe that if you are serious about what you do and have a daily discipline that does not allow for flexibility, then anything is possible”.
