About The Society
The Gibraltar Philharmonic Society exists to promote classical music in Gibraltar.
It is a company limited by guarantee not having a share capital and is a registered charity.
The Society organises a programme of monthly concerts in Gibraltar with admission tickets priced very attractively, and has become known for the quality of the orchestras and artistes it brings, which include the English Chamber Orchestra and soloists from the Vienna State Opera, The Metropolitan Opera (New York), Teatro alla Scala (Milan), Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (London) and Berlin State Opera.
In 2000, the Society became involved with the organisation, auditioning and awarding of the Professional Travel Insurance musical scholarship for talented young Gibraltarian musicians and in 2001 with the staging in Gibraltar of the prestigious Altamura/Caruso International Voice Competition. In 2002 and 2003 the major events were fully staged operatic productions of Verdi’s La Traviata and Puccini’s Tosca, respectively whilst the last number of seasons have seen the Society bring together in the “Celebration of Opera” a number of up and coming vocal artists as well as others of the highest international repute.
